The word Panama means “abundance of fish, butterflies and trees”.
The word is thought to come from the Kuna, a local indigenous tribe.
Panama definitely has a huge number and variety of fish.
Frommers describes fishing in Panama as,
“Panama is a world-class fishing destination known for its fast and furious reeling-in of monster species such as blue, black, and striped marlin; yellowfin tuna; and wahoo and swordfish. Fishing takes place year-round; however, marlin and tuna are more abundant from January to April. The Pacific Ocean is where the best fishing is ….. throw your line in and within minutes you’ll snag one, guaranteed.”
While the Puerto Armuelles area does not have the fishing industry of Piñas Bay, there is plenty of good fishing here.
